The Good & the Bad [6/2006]

Haven’t we been preaching against 3-d barcharts and the like for a long time? Here is what we didn’t think of in our wildest dreams: an animated 3-d barchart!

As you might guess, this is the usage statistics from this blog over the last week. It is not hard to draw “The Good” (far less sensational)

(This statistics also tells me why my quota is used up, so I moved most of the recent stuff to another server!)

The hoppelgraph is a good laugh, but your counterexample
lacks information it provides. You might want to add labels
on the frequency axis. Ironically, your grey bar chart does
not reveal what you say the statistic tells. Without an idea of
the grand total of visits, you cannot tell if your quota’s been
    used up yet.

    Johannes,

yes, you are right. Printing an interactive graph without the possibility to query it is reducing the whole thing to a qualitative message.

    Best
